A Christmas Journey of Music, Faith & Joy

As we embrace the joyful spirit of the Christmas season, our Parish invites you on a heartwarming journey of music, faith, and celebration. This year, we’ll explore Christmas traditions from around the world, with each service creatively titled after beloved Christmas hymns and songs.

Families will delight in events such as Twinkle Twinkle (Sing-a-long Carols), Away in a Manger (Crib Service), and Jingle Bells (Family Carols). These gatherings promise fun and festive joy for all ages. For those looking to immerse themselves in the Christmas spirit, we’ll be holding three Joy to the World services and our ever popular event O LIttle Town (Senior Carols & Afternoon Tea) ensuring everyone can partake in the celebrations.

Don’t miss our creative events like Shine Jesus Shine (Christingle) and Holly & the Ivy (Wreath Making), which will inspire and uplift as we prepare for the season. Throughout December, we’ll also host various other opportunities to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas, culminating in our much anticipated community event, Christmas on Mill Green, on Saturday 7th December.

Let’s come together as a Parish to celebrate the joy of this special season and share in the warmth and love that Christmas brings.

Devotions for Advent 2024

The Radiant Dawn

'You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger’

‘ You will conceive and give birth to a son…

‘And there were shepherds living out in the fields near by…'

Following the positive responses received from church members concerning Tom Parsons’ devotions for Lent this year, (‘From Glory into Glory’), we’ve decided to stay with the same author for our Advent studies for 2024.

The Radiant Dawn’ is a collection of devotions focusing on the opening chapters of Luke’s Gospel. Parsons guides the reader through the 25 days of Advent with readings and prayers, at times pausing for several days on one passage to peer intently into Luke’s best-known narratives.

Christmas lights may sparkle in the dark evenings we experience during the winter but they are taken down and put back in the box when January arrives. In contrast, Luke points us to Jesus, the Radiant Dawn of a day that will never end.

Let these Advent reflections direct your heart’s gaze towards Him, the shining source of confidence and joy in whatever darkness we may experience- now or in the future. Copies available now! Get yours from . £2 each.

Saturday 7th December

This December, let the stars guide you as we kick off the Christmas season in style on Saturday 7th December, on Mill Green.

As the sun sets at 4.30pm, we’ll embrace the Christmas spirit with delicious treats like mulled wine, mince pies and hot dogs generously provided by our sponsors for a donation. There will also vendors providing beer, wine, tea & coffee and hot chocolate.

Mill Green will come alive with festive music, leading up to the blessing of our magnificent six-meter Christmas tree, donated by local resident Graham Trolley. The official lighting will take place at 5pm, and everyone is invited to sing around the tree accompanied with a brass band.

We shall also have the Christmas Raffle featuring some fantastic prizes. Tickets are just £1 each and will be available for purchase in advance from St Mary’s Church (Monday to Thursday, 10am to 12pm) and Sundays after the 9.45am service) from Tuesday 5th November. Raffle tickets will also be sold on the day, announced shortly after the carols.

CAN YOU HELP?

We're looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our team and help make this year's Christmas event a success! Your support is needed for tasks like setting up, organising, taking payments, handing out music programmes, serving mulled wine and mince pies, clearing up and packing down. It’s a great chance to get involved in the community and make this magical evening on Mill Green unforgettable. Please contact for more information.
